Green Councillors Push Through Recycling Improvements

(Updated Nov 8th)

In a press release on October 27th, Stroud District Council noted that on November 6th councillors would vote on proposals to further improve the recycling arrangements for the 51,000 households in the district.

The proposals came from the council’s Environment committee, chaired by Green councillor Simon Pickering, which put forward the introduction of a weekly food waste collection service and an optional, paid for garden waste collection scheme.

It took 18 task & Finish groups, three committee meetings and a long debate at full council; but we are please to announce that these improvements were voted through in the end with a good majority (only 2 Conservatives voting against).

Councillor Pickering said:

“The new system will allow people to recycle more and reduce the amount of waste going to landfill. The changes we introduced three years ago have already led to an increase in recycling, and these improvements will make an even more substantial improvement.”
