Molly Scott Cato, Green lead candidate for the Euro elections 2014 and Leader of the Green Group on Stroud District Council, welcomed the decision taken on 19th December by a Stroud District Council committee, to suspend the tender process for the Stroud Farmers’ Market.
She said:
“This is a common sense decision which will enable everyone concerned to stop and take stock and I am delighted that the efforts of the Green councillors have helped to bring this about. The Farmers’ Market is a vital part of Stroud’s economy. Shopping there is not just a middle class hobby; the market brings all sorts of people into the town, from near and far, who then take their custom to other businesses in the town and help to keep the local economy flourishing.”
Molly went on: “We now have an opportunity to review how the market operates: to build on the best things about it, recognising the quality and strength of the traders and the hard work of the market manager, which have helped to make it the success it is. I look forward to contributing to this review, following the Christmas break.”
