Gloucestershire County Councilhas signed a new contract with Andigestion Ltd who is building a new anaerobic digestion waste facility at Wingmoor Farm near Bishop’s Cleeve. This means that in the future, our food and garden waste will be turned into fertiliser and green energy.
Leading Green Party Councillor and Chair of the Environment Committee, Simon Pickering said:
“This has been a long time coming but it’s great news that green waste and food waste collected in the county will finally be put to good use. These plans mean that under the new waste service to be introduced in Stroud District in 2016 the food waste and green waste collected can be regarded as raw material for the cyclic economy, rather than a waste product of our throwaway society.”
Simon Pickering was instrumental in getting food waste collection into the new waste contract, so as to reduce the amount of rubbish we send to landfill. This new development means that Stroud’s improved waste strategy will be an even bigger advantage for the district, and the county.
