Green County Councillor Sarah Lunnon’s attempt to clarify the costs of cancelling the contract for the Javelin Park incinerator has been thwarted.
Cllr Sarah Lunnon noted: “It was depressingly predictable that Labour Cllrs supported the Tory administration at Shirehall to withhold the costs of cancelling the Javelin Park Incinerator contract, even from Cllrs.”
This means that the public are also denied access to the figures.
“We should be given the information,” said Cllr Lunnon, “so we can understand the on-going costs. We are in effect being asked to spend £5 to save £1. Other technologies appear to offer better returns.”
Greens have challenged the logic of the incinerator from the outset, and will continue to fight for a sustainable approach to waste.
“At least one high court judge agrees with me, and has ordered Sutton Council to release unredacted its incinerator contract with Viridor,” Sarah Lunnon concluded.
