The decisions reached at COP26 – and how they can be moved forward by local individuals and communities – were discussed at a public meeting on Saturday (November 13) at Lansdown Hall, Stroud.
More than 100 people, about half of them joining remotely via Zoom, attended the meeting organised by Stroud District Green Party.
The speakers were [in the order shown in the picture]:
Dr Simon Pickering, Ecotricity environment advisor, co-chair of the business energy group at the GFirst local enterprise partnership, advisor to Business Declares (a group of business leaders committed to reaching carbon neutrality), and former chair of the environment committee on Stroud District Council.
Dan Green, a 17-year-old sixth-form student at Archway School, one of the founding members of Stroud Youth Strike 4 Climate in 2019.
Juliet Davenport OBE, founder and former chief executive of renewable energy company Good Energy. Juliet is a climate scientist, renewable pioneer, businesswoman and environmental activist.
Carla Denyer, co-leader of the national Green Party and a councillor in Bristol, a part of the largest Green councillor group in the UK.
The event was chaired by Barbara Imrie, pictured far right.
Elizabeth Lee, event coordinator, said: “The response from the audience was thoughtful and encouraging. There were some really positive and creative suggestions from both the panel and participants about ways we can help to mitigate this looming disaster.”
This was the latest in Stroud District Green Party’s monthly Cloud Café discussion forums, which address a wide variety of topics related to the environment and social justice.
