Bisley with Lypiatt

Martin Brown

Cllr Martin Brown is standing for re-election in Bisley ward, where he has been a district councillor since 2021.

He is chair of the Bisley, Eastcombe and Oakridge Climate Action Network (BisCAN), which he founded in 2020. He is on the boards of Bisley Community Composting

Scheme and of the Cotswolds National Landscape, where he is helping to create the climate action plan for this designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

He is also a trustee of environmental charity Stroud Valleys Project. Martin has lived locally since 2016 and has been on Bisley-with-Lypiatt Parish Council since 2018.

Among the achievements he is proud of are organising the community speedwatch scheme in Bisley, starting the Warm Welcome in Bisley scheme and promoting cycling (by example and advocacy). He likes Stroud District for its progressive, artistic community, the farmers’ market and the nature-rich countryside.

His dream for a better country and world is fairer distribution of everything; fewer cars; less conflict; less harm to nature/more recovered habitats; more local, organic food production; and less industrial farming and other forms of animal exploitation.

If elected he would aim to help Stroud District Council to achieve more nature recovery, better public transport (in collaboration with transport authorities) and active travel; and more affordable, sustainable housing.

In Bisley, Martin aspires to see less car dependency, increased nature habitats (including gardens), less and calmer traffic on roads, more home insulation, and more affordable, modest, sustainable housing.

In his spare time he is a bell ringer at All Saints Church, Bisley, and enjoys cycling (he has been on cycle tours in the Himalayas, Andes and Sahara Desert, among other places around the world).
