Simon Pickering is chair of the Environment Committee. Under Simon’s guidance, Stroud District has become the first Carbon Neutral Council in Europe. He has steered the introduction of a new waste and recycling scheme – achieving over 61% recycling and one of the best food waste collection schemes in the UK. Simon also chairs the Steering Group for the nationally acclaimed Stroud Natural Flood Management Project.
Simon steered the Climate Change emergency motion through committee and full Council and then wrote the technical background document on the implementation of the motion detailing what is required to become a carbon neutral district by 2030.
Simon is the Senior Ecologist for Ecotricity, where his role is to ensure that renewable energy projects are built where they don’t harm wildlife. He is also one of the faces of wind energy – promoting careers in the renewables industry.
