About Us

In light of Covid-19, we are no longer holding our monthly meetings or Green Drinks face-to-face. Our monthly meeting for members is instead run online through Zoom. You will be notified, as a member, of these meetings.

We are also holding an online series called Cloud Cafe - held on a fortnightly basis, discussing various issues around Covid-19, and more recently how we can Build Back Better.

Monthly Meetings

Stroud District Green Party meetings are held on the Fourth Tuesday of each month, at 7.30pm at the Imperial Hotel (although check the calendar as we sometimes move to a different venue).  We welcome members and prospective members.  Each meeting is normally split into a period to discuss party business and a period of general discussion on a chosen topic.  Meetings are a great opportunity to meet other members, get involved with running the party, sign up to help with our various campaigns, or indeed influence the direction that we are taking.

For more information, please contact our co-ordinators  by email on coordinator@stroudgreenparty.org.uk

Our Area

Stroud District Green Party covers the Stroud District Council area and parliamentary constituency.   We are an active party with a strong local membership. There is a Green Party majority on Stroud Town council, including the mayor Kevin Cranston. We also have members on Nailsworth & Stonehouse Town Councils and numerous parish councils. We are represented on Stroud District Council by 8 members and on the County Council by 2 members (representing Stroud Central and Minchinhampton). With your help we hope to expand our influence, particularly in the Tory-led county council Green councillors have proven their ability to "shake up" the comfortable status quo.

Join the Green Party

As a member, you can be as active as you like - from armchair and online support to standing as a candidate for election. For more information, please contact Liz Hillary or Phil Blomberg, our membership secretaries, by email at membership@stroud.greenparty.org.uk.  Alternatively you can join online.

Students: Join the Green Party for just £5 a year!

Even if you don't want to make the commitment of joining us, we always welcome supporters and volunteers. Volunteers can help with our campaigning work. Could you help deliver leaflets to your street, or go out with our campaign team and speak to local residents about their concerns?

Do you have fundraising experience or press, social media, research and administrative skills?  Whatever your level of experience and however much or little time you can give, we would love to hear from you.

Contact us by email or telephone as mentioned above for more information about ways you can get involved.  Or you can register online as a supporter.

Please consider donating to help fund our campaigns.  Money donated locally will be spent locally on our efforts to get more councillors elected and to make Stroud District a greener place.  By building up support at a local level we hope to eventually break through at national level - but we can't do it without money.

Stand for Council

We are looking for candidates to stand in a number of seats at town, parish, district and county council levels.  Come along to a meeting and introduce yourself!

Green Drinks - temporarily suspended

Green Drinks is a great way to meet new people, catch up with friends or just hang out with people who also want to contribute in whatever way to a more sustainable society.

Stroud Green Drinks meets in The Retreat, 28 Church St, Stroud GL5 1JL (off the Hight Street), on the second Thursday of each month starting around 8pm. It's not party political - anyone with an interest in green issues is welcome, but there are normally a few Green Party members there, so do come along and meet us!

The Green Party Political Programme sets out what Greens are in politics to do: to end the system that keeps hurting the environment and all of us who rely on it – and to build a better alternative.

This Programme isn’t like other parties’ manifestos, it has not been squeezed through focus groups and stripped down according to the latest polling. Instead it has been built from policies proposed and voted on by our members, looking to secure the long term future of the places and people they love.

It’s a vision of a better world, and together we can deliver it.
